Student Council

Student Council

Student Council is a leadership and service organization that is open to St. Martha middle school students. It is a student based and governed organization with service as its primary focus. It is composed of class representatives who are nominated and elected by the students in each respective grade. These elected peers also form the pool for which officers are voted on by the student body. Student Council serves as a voice for the student body expressing ideas and issues, and negotiates with teachers and administrative staff regarding various issues, activities and events that directly relate to the student body. Student Council also takes on various missionary projects that reach out to community based organizations that serve the less fortunate.

Student Council meets the special interests of the students by providing leadership and service opportunities which serve not only as an outflow of Christian formation while at St. Martha Catholic School but also prepares the students for leadership and service opportunities in their academic future. In addition, Student Council serves the interest of the students by providing an avenue by which their concerns can be addressed in a conciliatory manner and their peers can serve as a liaison and mentor when needed.

 News from Student Council

The Student Council has been very busy making plans and setting out the agenda for activities for our school. Here is a list of activities we are planning:

· The last week of October will be “Red Ribbon Week.” Students will participate in activities throughout the week to learn about the dangers of illegal drugs and encourage them to Just Say No to Drugs!

· We are continuing our “Paper Recycling Program”. Student council members will travel to classrooms to pick up recycled items to bring them to the dumpsters located in the school parking lot. We recognize that every effort to protect and preserve our environment will contribute to a better future.
