PreK-4 participates in songs, finger-plays, nursery rhymes, rhythmic movement, dancing, use of rhythm instruments, and group games.
Kindergarten and 1st grade focus on becoming aware and imitating steady beat, echoing, rhythmic patterns, dynamics, beat and rest value in music. They will learn many songs, musical games, and hymns. K and 1 st also participate in listening to and learning to sing the Star-Spangled Banner and Texas, Our Texas.
2nd graders will solidify their hymns and anthems as well as learn to clap, tap, move to various rhythmic patterns consisting of ½, ¼, 1/8 notes and rests. They participate in songs, dances, and games of other cultures and learn to use the Boom Whackers to imitate the rhythmic patterns learned.
3rd - 5th graders focus on learning musical notation and note value; ensemble playing, and singing in Latin and Spanish. 3rd graders focus on the Recorder; 4th graders on the Xylophone; and 5th graders on the Hand Bells.
Kindergarten - 5th graders prepare for our annual Music Showcase scheduled in May.
