Pre-K Music

QUARTER 1:

• Discover the presence of beat in music and in the world around us                   
• Feel, identify, and express a steady beat through movement and singing    
• Develop ability to use shouting, singing, whispering, and talking voices
• Promote vocal ability by singing and moving to a variety of songs
• Discover the difference between beat and rhythm
• Experience rhythm through playing instruments, singing, and movement

QUARTER 2:

• Get introduced to the musical concept of high and low pitch
• Explore how melodic direction (up/down) affects the musical experience
• Experience of melodic direction by singing and playing instruments
• Develop experience with melody by singing a celebration song              
• Gain understanding of a meter by singing and chanting to patterns of 2, 3, and 4   

QUARTER 3:  

• Perform using rhythm instruments such as hand drums, maracas, jingle bells, tambourines, and rhythm sticks
• Get introduced to loud and soft dynamics through singing, playing instruments, and movement
• Revisit loud and soft dynamic levels in music
• Learn about tempo through movement and singing
• Identify fast/slow tempo through listening
• Play classroom instruments at different tempi                                

QUARTER 4:

• Learn concept of duration with long and short sounds
• Express long/short sounds through singing, playing instruments, and movement       
• Distinguish the timbre of singing voices through active listening
• Recognize the difference between children and adult voices
