QUARTER 1:
Discover the presence of beat in music and in the world around us
Feel, identify, and express a steady beat through movement and singing
Develop ability to use shouting, singing, whispering, and talking voices
Promote vocal ability by singing and moving to a variety of songs
Discover the difference between beat and rhythm
Experience rhythm through playing instruments, singing, and movement
QUARTER 2:
Get introduced to the musical concept of high and low pitch
Explore how melodic direction (up/down) affects the musical experience
Experience of melodic direction by singing and playing instruments
Develop experience with melody by singing a celebration song
Gain understanding of a meter by singing and chanting to patterns of 2, 3, and 4
QUARTER 3:
Perform using rhythm instruments such as hand drums, maracas, jingle bells, tambourines, and rhythm sticks
Get introduced to loud and soft dynamics through singing, playing instruments, and movement
Revisit loud and soft dynamic levels in music
Learn about tempo through movement and singing
Identify fast/slow tempo through listening
Play classroom instruments at different tempi
QUARTER 4:
Learn concept of duration with long and short sounds
Express long/short sounds through singing, playing instruments, and movement
Distinguish the timbre of singing voices through active listening
Recognize the difference between children and adult voices
